Meekness. This is something that has been difficult for me to learn. Some call it cowardice; Jesus said the meek are blessed. It’s also a fruit of the spirit (“Gentleness” is used sometimes, but it’s the same greek word in Galations). I’ve thought about this for a while, “How can I be bold and meek?” Jesus was bold and meek. First things first, as I’ve been learning in James:
Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
James 1:21
If I can do that, maybe I can learn meekness. I love what the ESV study bible says:
Meekness comes not from cowardice or passivity but rather from trusting God and therefore being set free from anxious self-promotion.

Extra verses to read:
- James 3:13
- Philippians 2:7-8
- 2 Corinthians 10
God is passionate about his glory. He lovingly invites us to glorify him. He has glory and he is glorious. And he deserves the praise of his glory. These are a few key verses that I have been meditating on lately that really speak to this.
Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground. And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
Exodus 14:16-18
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 1:11,12
I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.
Isaiah 42:8
Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
John 17:24
To the praise of his glory. I will get glory over Pharoah. They shall know that I am the Lord. My glory I give to no other. To see my glory.
Wow. Go read Isaiah 6.
Via skype my friend lala suggested I write words about God. I really agree with her. I’ve been reading Tozer lately. There shouldn’t be a secular sacred divide in our speech. God is sovereign over all things. Check out this quote from Knowledge of the Holy.
Without doubt, the mightiest thought the mind can entertain is the thought of God, and the weightiest word in any language is its word for God.
A.W. Tozer
Now, if I want to talk about God, what better place to start than where God talks about himself? I’ve been to the museum in Israel where this scroll is stored.
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
Exodus 34:6-7
